Free Post #5: Art 1201
When I signed up for this class I was only thinking that the class would be an easy A, I would just show up, do a few worksheets, watch videos, and take a few tests. On the first day of class I realized that this was not the case. Throughout the projects and the assignments and the blogs I have learned more about art and artists and art movements then I have throughout my entire life. The class intrigued me and really made me interested in art. I would recommend the class to anyone wanting to learn more about art, and even if they didn't I would still recommend it because it was such a great experience.

Free Post #3: Cage The Elephant

Cage the Elephant is a band I fell in love with over the summer. A lot of there songs deal with human behavior, nature, and struggle. They have a way of making their lyrics powerful and yet putting them with music that is soothing and fun. It's a way to express feelings without in your face anger. Their single "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" is a great song, and although the title isn't exactly correct grammar, the meaning is true at that. A few other songs of theirs I love are "In One Ear", "Free Love", and "Drones in the Valley".
Free Post #2: Seven

The movie Seven depicts how the seven deadly sins are acted out. In this movie, the criminal who is killing these people because of their sins, an in turn killing them with their sins: greed, envy, sloth, gluttony, lust, pride, wrath. The movie is art because the director of this movie made the killings monumental in a way. I really enjoyed watching this movie and have watched it many times, always finding something new to the story. It really makes you think.
_____ is a culture because....
All stereotypes are cultures. High school stereotypes like, prep, punk, emo, skater, jock are all cultures. These kids live, eat, and breathe by these stereotypes. The types of clothes they were, places they go, and attitudes they have a defined by these stereotypes. I noticed this as a was with my sisters friends, as they pointed out different people in the mall, and how they all acted like each other and dressed alike. These stereotypes have been around for years, and while they have altered a bit they still have the same meaning to them.
Art on YouTube
When I went and searched "art" on YouTube bout a million videos popped up. As I started watching a few videos I realized the videos consisted of paintings, photographs, music videos, movies and much more. All of which is considered art by whoever posted the videos. Art is everywhere, and you dont have to "search art" to find it.
Art and Film
Art and Film go hand in hand. Artwork is what the artists sees something as or what something means to them, feeling or intellectual. A film is what the writer or director interprets something as, like a story that has been written and is now turning into a film. Films are art. Art applies to something created by a human to express meaning or feeling.
Free Post #1: Arts and Crafts Community
When I visited Gatlinburg over the Thanksgiving break, My family and I went to the Arts and Crafts Community. This community was like nothing I had ever seen. It was made up of a few streets of houses/cabins that have been turned into shops. There were people playing music, popping popcorn, throwing pottery, painting, and other artsy things. It was really interesting to see how these people live, and how much each and every one of them love being artists, which was very apparent when we got to have one on one conversations about their lives and artwork.
Artists in Society...
When most people think of artists in society they think of artists they've heard of, artists that have made it big. I like to think of artists in society as the people I attend school with, the everyday people that I have class with every day or the artists that live in my dorm that go unnoticed. Alot of the artists can do amazing things with paper and pencil. Art is everywhere we look not just on the big screen or in the museum.
Why I Believe This Film is a Work of Art..

Michael Jackson's This Is It film is what I consider a work of art. It shows the artist at highs and lows throughout the set up of his come back concert. It shows the fans a pretty good insight into how much Michael Jackson cares about how his music is preformed. And it was really interesting to watch.
I'm having a catharsis...
On my really bad emotional, "life sucks" kind of days I tend to do alot of drawing. This is a recent drawing. It shows just how all over the place I was feeling that day.

Left Brain vs. Right Brain

Left Brained people are more logical, analytical, objective, and the look at parts, and enjoy instructions. Right Brain people are more intuitive, random, look at wholes, and subjective. Personally I am more left brained, I enjoy logic, math, and instructions. However I also enjoy being creative, like drawing and painting.
Poetry Slam
Here is a poem that I found really interesting, and while it is a bit disturbing the hidden meaning behind the poem gets you thinking. I had to memorize and analyze this poem my senior year in high school.
In The Desert - Stephen Crane
In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said: "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter - bitter," He answered.
"But is like it,
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart."

Fashion as Art
On the televising show Project Runway, the contestants on the show are required to make clothes out of sometimes outrageous materials, which is fashion to the extreme, I considered all fashion art. Here are some examples of the outfits a few of the contestants have created during the duration of the show.

My Favorite Artist
Jackson Pollock
While I like alot of different artists and their artwork, I really enjoy Jackson Pollock's artwork. It's random, and colorful. There is no such thing as a mess up or wrong color in his paintings. It's free.
Graffiti: Art or Not?
Some say Graffiti is is vandalism to private property, it lowers the value and looks trashy.
Others say Graffiti is art, showing the feelings and emotions of the artist.
I agree with the second statement. Graffiti is Art. It is the artists way of expressing themselves. Although Graffiti is known for showing gang symbols, marking territory and what not. That type of Graffiti is trashy. The Graffiti painting pictures and inspirational pieces is art. Art that inspires other artists.

Art Education in Schools: Important or Not?
Many Teachers, Parents, and Government officials have long since argued about how important art is or isn't. Many people believe art isn't needed to be successful. Art is just an extra class or free time. Art isn't as important as maths and sciences. It has been debated since school systems were created, is teaching about art and art history important enough to spend time on? I believe learning about art and it's history may not be absolutely necessary, but it allows student to think outside the box and wonder about meanings, and not to be scared of being wrong because art is feelings, not black and white.

Human Struggle
This Music Video is a Work of Art....
Strawberry Swing - Coldplay is a music video that I consider a work of art. The video shows multiple creating pictures by chalk. It's really interesting.

I love this architecture...
This type of architecture is beautiful. It's classic and intriguing.
The tops of these types of building look so fragile, yet dangerous and mysterious.
Eh, I'm in love. :)
